Pi Zero and Pi Zero W
BuyaPi is a North American distributor of the Raspberry Pi Foundation’s Pi Zero and Pi Zero W. These miniature versions of the Raspberry Pi platform offer many of the features of their larger relatives at a lower cost and smaller footprint. Below is a comparison of the two models.
Pi Zero
Pi Zero Specifications
- 1 GHz single-core CPU
- 512 MB of RAM
- Micro-USB power
- Micro-USB OTG port
- Mini-HDMI port
- Composite video and reset headers
- HAT-compatible 40-pin header
- CSI camera connector for versions 1.3 only
Pi Zero W
Pi Zero W Specifications
The Pi Zero W features all of the same specifications as the Pi Zero, as well as the following additions:
- Bluetooth 4.1
- Bluetooth Low Energy
- 802.11 b/g/n Wireless LAN
Both Pi Zero boards are extremely minimalist in nature, and need accessories and adapters to become fully functional. Even with these additional items, the value of a Pi Zero bundle is outstanding. The items that we recommend to accompany the bare board are:
- A quality 5.1V 2.5A micro-USB power supply
- A 4GB (for a light version) or a 16GB (for a full version) microSD card to run an operating system
- An HDMI mini adapter, to adapt to standard HDMI cables
- A USB OTG adapter, to connect USB keyboards, mice, etc
- A USB console cable, for headless serial operation
- GPIO header pins, to attach Pi HATs as on a full-sized Pi
- A case, to enclose the board and camera if attached
